Testing displaying ackee, mask and hair in musem display cabinet. I thought this display looked quite cold and boxed in, I realised this wasn't the aesthetic I wanted for the degree show install.
Decideing which piece to display on this wall that caught the sun because of its position by the window. In the end I chose Living Cultures because of the shadow cast onto the image by its shredded paper boarder. I liked how the shadows interacted with the silhouette like figures, further adding to my themes of visibility. This was also confirmed by my tutors and curating staff.
I tested these sculptures in the seed to future exhibition. They were displayed on a white plinth and I felt as if they lacked context. This fuelled my investigation into Veronica Ryan and her use of found materials to add context to her work.
I also played around with dressing the plinth in my blue tye-dyed fabric, I felt as if it resembled water which added to the visual story I was telling. I used other collected items like this crate to further translate the idea of organic produce. consulting with the curating staff, I decided not to have my plinth standing as the shape of the rectangle on top of the square  wasn't visually appealing
I tested a spoken word performance that invited organic collaboration with the audience through African drumming. Although the rhythm didn’t always align perfectly with the tempo of my poem, the drums added a powerful layer of engagement. They helped draw the audience in, deepening their connection to the piece and enhancing their understanding of its themes.
